Ritchie De Laet (RDL) began his professional football career in his native Belgium before he left to join Stoke City in the English league. He was in the Royal Antwerp youth team before he was promoted to the first team. The versatile defender left Belgian team Royal Antwerp to sign for Stoke City. Ritchie De Laet can play either as a left-back or as a right-back. Also, he can also play as a centre back.

While he was a Stoke City player, De Laet spent some time on loan at Welsh team Wrexham. The defender moved to Manchester United from Stoke City in 2009 and he went on to play just three times in the league for the Red Devils in three years before signing for Leicester City while they were still in the English Championship. Officially, De Laet signed for Leicester City on May 14, 2012 as he penned a three-year contract. He moved to Leicester City on the same day as Manchester United teammate Matty James.

Ritchie De Laet registered his first Leicester City goal during the 6-1 thrashing of Huddersfield Town in the league on New Year’s Day in 2013. His second Leicester City goal arrived four days later in the 2013 FA Cup third round clash with Burton Albion.

In his second season at Leicester City, Ritchie De Laet helped the club to secure promotion to the Premier League via the Championship playoffs. He scored twice in 46 games in all competitions during that season. He was a regular in the team during the first Premier League season for Leicester City after their promotion in the summer of 2014 with a return of two goals in 35 matches.

Ritchie De Laet started the first seven Leicester City games during the 2015/16 season. He would lose his place to Danny Simpson later in the same season and that prompted him to leave on loan to Middlesbrough.
